RWBC Wins "Most Effective Club Project Award 2022"

Republican Women of Baltimore County are pleased to announce that they have won the 2022 Most Effective Club Project Award from the Maryland Federation of Republican Women. The club project that earned them this recognition was their dedicated efforts to effect change in the Baltimore County Public Schools by removing pornographic and obscene materials from the school library shelves.

This project has been a long-term endeavor that began with a letter campaign to Baltimore County Schools, requesting book reviews, and following up with inquiries to the Baltimore County State's Attorney's office. Undeterred by challenges, RWBC has sought support from The Patriot Club of America and Moms for Liberty.

It is important to clarify that despite what the left may assert, our efforts have never been about book banning. Our objective has always been to eliminate pornography and obscene materials from our schools. The press jumped on board with radio interviews, newspaper coverage and television interviews. Most egregious was WYPR 88.1, with very biased and uneven coverage, more here: https://www.republicanwomenbc.com/post/wypr-88-1-book-banning-by-political-activist-groups

Katie Swim, the newly appointed Chair of the Education Committee, has taken additional steps by designing flyers for parents, testifying at school board meetings and community events, and raising awareness about these books. This campaign has prompted parents to step forward and voice their concerns to the Baltimore County Public Schools.

RWBC's Literacy Committee has taken advantage of this opportunity to delve further into these inappropriate books by writing book reviews and publishing themed blogs titled "The Right Review." As an example, you can find a review of the obscene book "Lawn Boy" by Jonathan Evison, which was found on the shelves of the Baltimore County Public School Library, here.

It's essential to note that this project is far from complete, as legislation to strengthen Maryland's pornography laws is currently being considered. Please stay tuned for further updates.

The members of the Republican Women of Baltimore County express their gratitude to the Maryland Federation of Republican Women for this recognition.
