Social Worker Condemns BCPS for Harmful Materials

Louise Baker, a career clinical social worker (LCSW-C), warned the Baltimore County Public School Board of Education on July 11 that the retention of some inappropriate and even harmful books in the school libraries could cause lifelong damage. She laid out five possible scenarios of already vulnerable children reading books that she believes could trigger criminal and dangerous behavior. The books she mentions are Lawn Boy by Jonathan Evison, Assassination Classroom by Yusei Matsui, Tricks by Ellen Hopkins, Push by Sapphire, Heroine by Mindy McGinnis, and Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe.
