Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Issues Executive Order Barring Vaccine Mandates Statewide

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) issued an executive order prohibiting forced vaccine mandates. In an executive order signed on Monday, the Republican governor stated “no entity in Texas” was permitted to force an individual to get the COVID-19 vaccine if the individual was to object.

“Legislation establishing that no entity in Texas can compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccine by any individual, including an employee or a consumer, who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID- 19.”

Abbott has previously rejected Texas businesses from requiring vaccine passports for customers as well as mask requirements in all statewide schools. He argued the Biden administration’s mandate plan was federal overreach and added mask wearing and COVID-19 vaccines should never be forced. Several other GOP lawmakers have fought back against Joe Biden’s mandatory vaccine mandate as there have been many cases where employees who refused the jab have gotten fired. According to Biden’s mandate, all employers with 100 or more workers to demand all employees become vaccinated or get weekly tests.
