Post Election: What is Important?Government: Solution or Problem?

By Barry Chodak Associate Member Republican Women Baltimore County

Towson, Maryland - What has been revealed through this election cycle is the degree to which we are being manipulated by what we are being told (media) and what we are not being told. I just read a piece in the NYT that purported to outline the key points of a Republican legislative program. These are the “usual suspects” including Medicare, Obama Care, Taxes, Tariffs, Immigration, Ukraine, and Climate Change. Note that all are tied to government actions that are intended to have us believe that only such actions can make our lives better.

The wealth of a country does not come from people who do not produce anything other than rules and regulations, a collection of words designed to favor or limit what we can do. It should be clear now that those words have made some people wealthy while keeping a lid on others. This last election showed that the “others” are beginning to see our government as what it has become and not for the promise of the American Dream.

Wealth is created by people when they are free to create and benefit from what they created. Let’s put our attention on what can be done to free those energies. That is the real challenge to the new administration and to us. That will be the way we measure our success.

Here are some areas to watch: Freedom of Speech, Medical Freedom, Food Freedom, Economic Freedom, and Political Freedom.

These areas are impacted by legislation, enforcement, and judicial decisions. We can measure things like access to the courts -i.e. standing, bail, and trial by jury- and the impact on regulations -reductions in number, size of departments, and the geographical locations of departments. This will be a dance between the three branches of government. In the process, we will see what the impact has been on our health, our families, our schools, and our beliefs.

There are exciting times ahead!
