Maryland Federation of Republican Women (MFRW) and
RWBC OPPOSE these Maryland Bills
SB 594/HB 532 - Constitutional Amendment to allow a qualified individual to register and vote in a precinct on election day - Education, Health & Environmental Affairs Committee
HB 5 - Requiring a landlord to provide a residential tenant with a voter registration application and information - Environment & Transportation Committee
HB 63 - Requiring a local board of elections to conduct a random drawing of the names of the candidates to determine the order of the names on the ballot. Ways & Means Committee
HB 152 Automatic Voter Registration by state agencies - MVA, Health Benefits Exchange, local Social Services - Ways & Means
HB 173 - Authorizing the Montgomery County Council to adopt, by law, a ranked choice voting method of elections for ALL local offices. THIS BILL HAS STATEWIDE IMPLICATIONS. A CANDIDATE COULD COME IN FIRST IN THE VOTES AND STILL LOSE THE ELECTION. PLEASE OPPOSE. Ways & Means.
HB 280 - If a voter who has declined to affiliate with a political party REQUESTS TO AFFILIATE WITH A PARTY DURING EARLY VOTING, the election judge, after determining the voter is qualified, can certify the voter. THIS BASICALLY ENDS THE CLOSED PRIMARY SYSTEM. Ways & Means
SB 357 - This is an important bill - it would require a jury commissioner to provide to the Board of Elections information concerning individuals who decline jury service because they are non citizens. It's a way of cross-checking to make sure these people are not registered to vote. PLEASE SUPPORT. The bill will require the State Board of Elections to have County BOE review the information they receive from the Jury Commissioner and where appropriate remove individuals from the voter registration list and publish on the State Board of Elections Web Site the number of people removed from the voters list because they were rejected for jury duty because they are non-citizens.
Please email and call your Delegates and Senator as well as the committee and/or subcommittee chair:
If you would like to contact committee members, it is very easy - go to mgaleg.maryland.gov and click on committees and the contact info will be there.
